Result: Whites 6 – 0 Westminster

The Whites took on Westminster this week – who’d upset us last season… but looking at both teams there were only a couple of players from each team who’d played in that one. After a fighting loss last week the boys were keen to get back into the winners circle. With regular coach John Whitehouse in Kyiv for the Champions League final, it was down to the cousins from the Cove (Saf & Crab) to marshal the troops. We were lucky enough to have most of the boys who’d played the week before, with the addition of Crab, Thaddeus, Leo and Mariano. I haven’t coached in a while… so the pre-game rev-up was pretty short – pass to feet, back each other up and enjoy it. Most of the first half was a pretty even tug of war – both teams had a couple of chances & both keepers had to make saves. Leo was having a field day out on the wing, but his mazy run beating 2 defenders before cutting inside the edge of the box to score on his left was completely next level! It boosted the boys, and we were happy to go into the half at 1-0. In the second half we made a couple of changes – with Mariano moving to striker being the decisive one as he went on a goal scoring rampage! With able assistance from Mohammed and Barry in a couple of goals, and a lovely poachers goal off a rebounded free kick – his 2nd half hat-trick was a pleasure to watch. Mohammed and Stu also managed to get on the score sheet as we completely dominated the second stanza, with quick short passing being the key difference between the two teams. Special mention goes to Matt and George for completely bossing the midfield, and our defence were excellent all game – so the clean sheet was well deserved.

Well done boys.

That’s it.
