Adelaide University Division 1 Women won the 2016 cup final on Sunday, after a 95th minute equaliser sent the match into extra time.

Adelaide Uni 2 (R. Lannan 62” M. Vladimirov 90+5”) def Metro United WFC 2 (C. Ross 3” Z. Stojakovic 39”) AET; 4-2 on penalties

The Blacks came back from 2-0 down at half time against Metro United courtesy of a cracking back-post strike from Bec Lannan and a last gasp finish by Mariah Vladimirov.

Coach and AUSC legend Kosta Jaric was thrilled with his team’s resilience and hard work.

“I’m so proud of the ladies,” he said.

“It was an absolute epic – from 2-0 down.

“We were up against it and came back after half time and turned the game around”.

Metro took the lead in the 3rd minute through Chantel Ross. A defensive lapse by the Blacks allowed Zoe Stojakovic to score in the 39th minute.

Jaric charged his players at half time and Lannan pulled a goal back on the hour mark.

The frantic match continued, Kiara Fragomeli and Paige Selby were cautioned by the referee late in the game before Vladimirov stepped up to steal the show. Vladimirov finished at the back post in the 95th minute, seconds before the final whistle and sent the match into extra time.

The result stayed 2-2 and up stepped Erin Moller between the sticks. Watch the Blacks win the cup 4-2 on penalties…

Could cup heroics earn Moller a Matildas call up?
