Man of the Match: Will Johnswood
The Div 4 reserves got their season off to a fantastic start with a 7-1 demolition of East Adelaide, with the front three combining beautifully from the start and with great midfield support to ensure Easts never really got into the game. Up front Will (3 goals) and Flynn (2 goals) made mincemeat of the Easts defence, feeding off some great passes from Dave – who scored twice himself – in the attacking midfield position. Centrebacks Jacob and Pete Mac dominated their opponents, picking off anything that came near them and setting the foundations for the team.
Up 5-0 at halftime the Blacks understandably took their foot off the throttle and found the going a bit tougher after making substitutes and reshuffling the back line. East Adelaide looked far more dangerous with the ball in the second half, and managed a goal (denying Savs a clean sheet on his goalkeeping debut), but the Blacks scored twice to run out the game in a canter.
