A glorious win to the B’s and a draw to the A’s in a good performance (that was marred only by conceding two soft goals) were the results in Round 19 of the Collegiate League for the Glamour.

The A’s got off to a super start as they played to coaches instructions by using the ball crisply, cleanly and most important EARLY. The whites were two up after super through balls by Dan and Paul put through Hayden and Mike who finished with aplomb on both occasions (coaches instructions to think of nothing when shooting must have worked). We were now two goals up and cruising.

The defence were tight as a nut and Dave Sampson was doing a terrific job on the big number ten in the holding role in midfield. Dan was creating the play and Nick was running amok in the hole behind the two strikers. Paul and Hayden had their flanks covered easily and all looked bright at half time with a two nil lead.

However, Rossies had the better of the last 15 of the first half and did look dangerous at set pieces.

The second half was a very even affair and in the end we really should have won the game. Conceding two soft goals from set pieces was poor and really again provides us with the lesson that we must concentrate 100% of the time or teams like Rostrevor will find us out. They have done so in three consecutive cup finals, and lets hope we can learn from this for our next cup encounter in a few weeks. Motivation is not our problem, its concentration.

The highlight of the second half was a brilliant curling left foot shot from Hayden which crashed against the cross bar. Very unlucky.

The lowlight other than the goals was when we arguably had two clear penalties as Richie got behind the defence but because the Ref was 40 metres away and with players between him and the ball the decision was not given. Poor refereeing in my view.

However we made our own problems and can’t complain too much.

Overall though an impressive display and with a bit of minor adjustment I am confident we can achieve our goal of winning the last three games and doing well in the cup.

See you at training.
