A dominant performance with three first half goals secured the Blacks their second win of the season against an overwhelmed Wolves side at West Beach.

SAASL Division 3 Round 12

Adelaide University Black 3-0 Northern Wolves

Goals: Tom Macura, Joe Henderson 2

The Blacks were hungry for a win to move up the table following a difficult first half of the season.

Early in the match, the Blacks worked passes down the right side of the pitch to Tim Capps who pulled the ball back to Tom Macura just inside the box and he placed it into the side netting for 1-0.

At 13 minutes, the Blacks tried a similar play down the right wing but this time attacker Andre Birve sprayed the ball wide of the goal.

The Blacks exploited gaps in the Wolves defence and created many early scoring chances.

At 20 minutes, the Blacks made another swift attack down the right side and Capps passed the ball across goal for Joe Henderson to tap it in to double their lead.

Just after the half-hour mark, Blacks midfielder Kevin Ugalde evaded Wolves defenders with effective dribbling in the box before being taken down and appealing for a foul but the referee didn’t call it.

A minute later, the Blacks were awarded a freekick just outside the box and shot but the Wolves ‘keeper saved it.

At 39 minutes, the Blacks attacked again and Ugalde sent the ball through to Henderson who chipped it first time over the keeper for 3-0.

In their next attack, the Blacks played a through-ball from midfield and the Wolves linesman signalled for offside but the referee overruled him.

The Wolves linesman reacted to the referee’s decision by throwing his flag down in frustration and storming off the pitch.

The half ended 3-0 to the Blacks.

The play in the second half started at a slow pace following the Blacks earlier onslaught.

67 minutes into the match, Henderson backheeled the ball to Ugalde who dribbled into the box and was pulled back by a Wolves defender but the referee saw no foul.

Late in the match, Henderson barged his way through the Wolves defence to create a chance on goal but he shot the ball straight at the keeper.

In the final minute, the Blacks had a flurry of shots but could not convert.

“Am I allowed to swear?” Blacks coach Mohan Karthigeyan said with a smile.

“Fantastic effort from the boys from the front to the back,” Blacks defender Tim Capps commented.
