Result: 6 – 1 Loss
It was a big day for the Whites A’s with a chance to get our season off and running, but sadly things didn’t go to plan, with a really disappointing 6-1 lose away at Sacred Heart. Things started badly when Max forgot his boots…causing a late change to the starting line up with Roschi slotting into midfield and Jimmy going out wide on the left. We were just too slow to get going, with a straight long ball sailing right into the path of Sacred Heart’s big striker (who just quietly had a blinder of a game), and just like that it was 1-0. The Whites fought back well with Jimmy having some luck down the left and Matt controlling the ball in the midfield, but as would continue for the rest of the day, every time we looked to be getting back into the game Sacred Heart would launch another long ball and bang, another goal. The boys fought hard and could easily have scored a few more goals, but when you concede 6 you only have yourselves to blame. Some of the football looked pretty and the effort was there, but all over the pitch we need to improve defensively with our positioning and our decision making not up to par, because while physically they had the edge over us, the opponents aren’t going to get any smaller (Grads Red next week!) so we need to find a way around it.
Bring on the Reds next week and another chance to get the season back on track!
