The Black’s SAASL Men’s Premier squad got off to all but the perfect start in Round 1 vs Adelaide Vipers. Playing at Viper’s superbly manicured pitch in St Clair, the A,B and C’s squads all got the valuable 3 points on offer scoring 15 goals along the way. The B and C teams now sit atop the league after convincing 3-1 and 8-2 wins, while the A team sits third on goal difference with a 4-1 win away from home.
The flat playing surface suited the Uni’s new Italian inspired style of play under new head coach, Davide Simone with the quick passes finding feet all day and the balls flying into the back of the net at a rate of 1 every 18 minutes.
Another new man who impressed was Mohammed Saud, who made a stunning debut for the blacks netting 5 times inside 50 minutes for the C team. His first coming from a long range lofted effort after spotting the Vipers’ keeper off his line. This set the tone for the day with the Blacks continuing to dominate all day with the exception of the odd defensive lapse.
The next round sees Adelaide Uni hosting traditional rivals Comets on Friday night, with the new metro pitch lighting being put to use for the first time in the men’s premier comp. The first team match kicks off at 8:15 pm in what is sure to be an exciting spectacle.
