Result: Cardjin 5 – 2 Whites
The Glamour this week had the long trek to Cardijn (Noarlunga) to take on the top of the table team. For the first time this season John had the D’s and the E’s playing – meaning it was an ‘All hands on deck’ game. We also had a clash with the A’s meaning regular keeper Dan was out – but thankfully Markus was available to deputise. The ground was massive and the grass was perfect. I did a ‘Dave Wilson’, i took a quick look at the opposition and aside from one chunky fella – the rest of the team looked fit –and – perhaps even worse – YOUNG! We got under way and for about the first 10 minutes the whites didn’t touch the ball.. The young Cardijn squads used their pace and the size of the ground to perfection. We finally got a couple of passes together and with one of these Wez put a long ball through to Sam – who neatly slotted it home 1-0 with about 10% possession – thank you very much. Soon after Cardjin managed to scrap a goal to get on level pegging and then they scored again coming through the middle with the whites defence at out of shape. John made an early change bringing Crab in to sweep and for the remainder of the half we were right in it. Late on Sam and Aaron almost got us level with a lovely piece of play resulting in Aaron hitting the crossbar from about 12 yards. Instead though Cardjin scored again to go into the break 3-1. The manager reminded us we could win this at the break. Asked us to use the ball a bit better. We started off pretty well with Sam having a couple of good chances again. Cardjin managed to score first with a pretty good effort from outside the box. At the other end their keeper had to make a couple of saves but eventually we did get the breakthrough as Stu scored a beauty from a free kick. Somewhere here Cardjin scored their 5th to seal the match. Our boys fought pretty hard all over the pitch though in what was a fighting loss. Always next week eh? Crab, Shaun, Darren and Bobby all played well. We’ll all be better for the hit out.
